Overview:
Uploading a video into the LMS may seem as simple as loading a standard document, however, there are many factors to consider when uploading a video. In this pro-tip article, we will review a few ways to upload a video with the best efficiency for a learner's view.
First, It is important to note that a video in the LMS should not be treated as a source for essentially streaming a video for learners. When a learner opens a video within the LMS the video begins to download to the learner's device which can sometimes cause an inconvenience depending on the device the learner is using (ie: learner using a mobile device, the video will download directly to the learners mobile device.)
To upload a video in the LMS, go to the “Content” tab in the top header on the home page and hoover over “Document” then click “add new document”

On the next page you will then be presented to browse and upload the video.
*Important Note*
Be sure the video is less than or equal to 200 megabytes, as this is a limit set by Noverant to ensure the video is able to upload without any processing errors.
We would like to emphasize the importance of maintaining video files at a maximum size of 200 megabytes to ensure efficient processing within the Learning Management System (LMS). While it is possible to request an increase in this size limit through a support request, adhering to the 200-megabyte limit is crucial for optimal performance.
Three ways to Upload A Large Sized Video Into the LMS:
- Our first option to upload a large-size video into the LMS is reducing the video quality. Noverant advises setting the video resolution to 720p or lower. This adjustment will reduce the file size and enhance the efficiency of video processing within the LMS.
- Another option is to split the video into different parts and uploading into the LMS and make a competency/bundle with the videos. This will also ensure users are completing the video
Creating a competency:
Hoover on the “Competencies” tab and Click “Add New Competency” from the Content dropdown on the homepage
Next, fill out any information needed to establish the competency/bundle
Finally, click on the “Edit” button on the Elements section on the Competency page. From here navigate to the right side of the page to add the elements(learning objects or in this case the videos that are in different parts)
- A last option to upload a large-sized video into the LMS is to contact Noverant Support and request this video is compressed and uploaded as an E-Learning. This would be initially uploaded into the sandbox for review then uploaded into production if acceptable.
In conclusion, uploading a video into the LMS may have certain limits but this is to ensure the user has an efficient experience while viewing the video and also for the LMS to process the video optimally.
